Call out for volunteers for a major local sporting event

The 2025 Maryborough Junior Basketball Tournament will be held at the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre, the Tullaroop Leisure Centre, the Maryborough Education Centre Stadium and the Castlemaine War Memorial Stadium, McGrath Street, Castlemaine across two days, on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th February 2025. The tournament sees teams arrive from all over Victoria,  bringing a large number of visitors to the area.

The Maryborough Resource Group (MVRG) is assisting the organisers of the event

to source volunteers to lend a hand over the event period. We are looking for a number of casual volunteers who can offer a couple of hours at one or more of the stadiums, on either day or both, to don a high vis vest and help out with basic information for players, families and spectators.

A list of specific tasks will be provided, for court  supervisors at each  stadium, however most of the requests revolve around directing people to toilets, local shops, water fountains, game locations and times etc.

This is a rewarding one-off opportunity to assist at the event which will be greatly appreciated by the Maryborough Basketball Association. You will also be doing something really important for Maryborough’s local youth.

There are no special skills or knowledge required. Working With Children Check is of course required. If you need help to get a WWCC, the MVRG can assist.

Please call us on 0475125455 or email at maryboroughvrc@gmail.com if you’d like to be part of this terrific local event.

Community Connections

“Community Connections” was a welcome night for our new Maryborough District Health Service International health workers held on November 2nd 2024 at the Salvation Army’s hall in Maryborough. Entirely run through a partnership between MDHS and our incredible local volunteers (MVRG) and organisations, the night was funded by the Maryborough Lions with many thanks to them for doing so. The evening exceeded all expectations with lots of Indian food and loads of fun for all attendees. Together we set out to warmly welcome our new residents, make them feel at home, help them enrich our cultural diversity, ensuring we have plenty of skilled health workers for our brand new hospital. The event epitomises MVRG’s ongoing commitment to our community and a demonstration how volunteering can make a positive impact across all aspects of community life.
